For Dalal

Dalal is the main beneficiary of our fundraisers, among family and neighbors in her community. Dalal is a dear friend of the organizer, living in Gaza with her two sons, Hamouda and Soso. She is a wonderful and caring mother, aunt, sister, and wife; she loves to cook (she sends recipes for bread, soup, lentils with tahini, and more). Before the genocide, she had attended university and studied in medical labs, and went on to raise her children and volunteer in hospitals. She is a caretaker and has the biggest heart of anyone I know; when me or my parents are sick, she tells me what kind of tea to drink and natural medicines to make at home. Soso, her youngest, loves Spiderman and we try to get him something spiderman-themed on his birthday each year. Hamouda takes pictures of the sky and sends them to me from his mom’s phone. They are both in school.

Where it goes

We send Dalal as much as we can every month. All of the money goes towards food, clothing, tent supplies (in the winter months especially, their tent constantly needs repairs), medicine, school supplies, toys, and more. Everything in Gaza is incredibly expensive. Someday when it becomes possible, Dalal hopes to relocate at some point to Egypt to live with her family. This will also be a very expensive endeavor. All the money we save will make it more possible.
